if you assumed something and it only made an ass out of yourself and not the other party, then the correct word to use is "assme" e.g. i assmed that she liked me so when i PRIVATELY confessed that i liked her and realised that she didnt share the same sentiments, it only made an ass out of myself.
however if you made an ass out of yourself and the other party, then the correct word to use is "assume" e.g. i assumed that she liked me so when i PUBLICLY confessed that i liked her and realised that she didnt share the same sentiments, it made an ass out of the both of us.
